We are seeking an experienced Design Engineer with strong skills in AutoCAD and SolidWorks for modeling, drafting, and metal sheet design. The ideal candidate will be responsible for creating and optimizing technical drawings, developing 3D models, and providing design solutions for sheet metal components and assemblies.

Key Responsibilities:

2D Drafting with AutoCAD:
Produce accurate and detailed 2D drawings for sheet metal parts, assemblies, and mechanical components, ensuring adherence to technical specifications and manufacturing standards.

3D Modeling with SolidWorks:
Develop 3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings using SolidWorks, with a focus on sheet metal design and fabrication techniques, such as bending, forming, and welding.

Sheet Metal Design & Optimization:
Design sheet metal components and structures, ensuring manufacturability, cost-efficiency, and structural integrity. Work with engineers to optimize designs for material usage and ease of production.

Design for Manufacturing (DFM):
Apply knowledge of sheet metal manufacturing processes (laser cutting, punching, bending, welding, etc.) to ensure designs can be efficiently produced while meeting quality standards.

Technical Documentation:
Generate detailed technical documentation, including bill of materials (BOM), assembly drawings, and part specifications for production.

Prototype and Testing Support:
Collaborate with the engineering and production teams to test prototypes, assess design functionality, and incorporate any necessary changes or improvements.

Collaboration with Production Teams:
Work closely with the production and fabrication teams to resolve technical challenges, provide design support, and ensure seamless execution of design into production.

Material Selection and Sourcing:
Assist in the selection of materials (steel, aluminum, etc.) for metal sheet components, considering strength, weight, cost, and manufacturing requirements.

Quality Assurance:
Ensure designs comply with relevant quality standards and regulatory requirements, maintaining consistency and accuracy in technical drawings and models.

Continuous Improvement:
Stay updated on the latest trends and technologies in sheet metal design and CAD software to continuously improve design practices and efficiency.

Requirements:

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field. Certifications in CAD or sheet metal design are a plus.

Experience:
Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in AutoCAD and SolidWorks for metal sheet design, modeling, and drafting, preferably within manufacturing, mechanical, or industrial design.

Software Proficiency:
Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD (2D drafting) and SolidWorks (3D modeling), with a strong focus on sheet metal design tools in SolidWorks.

Technical Knowledge:
In-depth understanding of sheet metal manufacturing processes (e.g., cutting, bending, punching, welding) and their impact on design.

Design Skills:
Strong understanding of design for manufacturability (DFM) and ability to create designs that are cost-effective and easy to manufacture.

Problem-Solving Ability:
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly when working with complex mechanical designs or troubleshooting production issues.

Attention to Detail:
High level of accuracy in drafting and modeling, with an eye for detail in ensuring that all parts and assemblies meet design specifications and manufacturing constraints.

Communication Skills:
Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with engineers, project managers, and production teams.

Project Management:
Ability to manage multiple design projects and deadlines simultaneously in a fast-paced work environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with metal sheet fabrication processes such as CNC machining, laser cutting, and metal stamping.
  • Knowledge of industry standards such as ISO 9001, ASME, and ASTM for mechanical design and sheet metal components.
  • Experience with PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) tools or ERP systems.
  • Familiarity with simulation tools within SolidWorks for stress analysis or material Optimization.
